I am definitely thinking about it... Bright is an awesome place to visit and hopefully the guys up there put on a great event.

May do the 3 hour solo or the 6 hour as a team.

hmmm.. tempting

Pairs might be a way to go, but even a 3hr solo is good.

John how was the course? I watched the YouTube video from last year and was quite impressed.

Who's interested so far?

Wayne (maybe), Brendan, Shannon, myself...

Like I said happy to team up with someone or ride the 3 hour solo.

Cheers,

J-Rod

Hello J-Rod - just got back from Bright.

First things first - Bright has the best mountain biking I have done since being back in Australia (admitedly only 12 months).  Being in the Vic Alps it was real steep and beautiful country side.

I was lucky enough to be shown around the course by Ross Walker (event organiser and one the friendliest people you will ever meet).  This year's course layout at the time of riding was only 95% complete, a couple of bridges for river crossings missing.  The  course was 75% - 85% single track and did not have a lot of passing opportunity (real single track) and will be a very enjoyable to ride.  The track had a mixture of both Pine forrest and Native forrest riding with a little hill climbing (less than last year)and will take (as an estimate) 30 - 45 minutes to ride - great course.

Ross mentioned that there is likely to be a social ride on the Sunday following the race - worth doing to take in more of the sights.

As a result of this week riding up there I am considering making it a three  day weekend up there to do some more of the other trails I just didn't get to.

I am interested in either the 3 hour solo or 6 hour (team or solo) - let me know who's in.

The only bad news is that as the race is on the same weekend as the Melbourne cup.  As a result there is now next to no accomodation available (maybe pubs only or try Wangaratta (80 kms away).  If anyone is interested we could either camp or book something at Wangaratta.

Regardless we have to organise a group up there as there is also Mount Beauty, Big Hill and Beechworth to ride.....but that's only after you get to all the stuff at Bright!

Regards, John van.

John van,

Mate, thanks for taking the time to type out that post. I went to Bright every Summer when I was young (while riding my shitty Norco) and love the place, probably one of the reasons I got into MTB in the first place. I cant wait for this event.

Great to hear the track is going to be a good one, I would expect nothing less with the terrain that surrounds Bright. Time to start organising the crew thats going to come up for the event. Now I have a bit of time on my hands this weekend so I start looking into accomodation but obviously would need to confirm numbers first on how long we would stay for. Personally I could head up on the Friday night and come back Sunday... leaving time for a social ride around Bright on the Sunday morning or like you said to, head to Mt Beauty or Beechworth on the way home.

I would prefer to stay in Bright itself rather than out of town and dont mind camping if need be (although I dont have any camping equipment haha).

Would it be too much to ask to confirm numbers by tomorrow night? Therefore we can get cracking on trying to find accomodation. Once we know who's coming maybe then we can work out what category we will enter.

J-Rod.

Hello again J-Rod

count me in for the road trip. I too would like to head up on Friday, potentially in the morning though as setting up camp at night is probably not much fun (plus get a ride in).  There is a caravan/camping park on Churchill Avenue which is walking distance to the event (transition area).

J-Rod, drop me your number  (or get mine from Ra) and we will talk tomorrow and start organising "stuff".

Regards, John van.
